Leather bottle: design procedure
The decor of bottles with leather is a simple technique that will allow you to transform an ordinary object into an original element of a kitchen design or an unusual gift souvenir. For work you will need:
- Genuine Leather;
- Glass bottle without embossed surfaces (optimal volume is 0.5 l.);
- Silicone glue gun;
- Scissors;
- Additional decorative elements at the discretion of the author (for example, beads, kanzashi crafts, a large brooch or a button);
First you need to clean the bottle of paper labels, wipe the printed text from it, dry it and degrease it with alcohol or vodka. Further step-by-step actions:
- Paste the skin over the bottle, starting from the bottom in one piece.
- Glue the neck with a thinner piece, creating a pattern in the form of an overlap and folds.
- From small pieces, cut out elements for decoration in the form of leaves, or abstractly glue the bottle with thin strips of leather material.
- Glue the top of the neck, simulating a cork. Glue can be applied to both skin and glass.
- Garnish the bottle with beads or other available materials.
In addition, you can decorate the bottle with leather elements imitating the weaving of vines and flowers made of leather, as shown in the photo below.

Materials required for work |
Stages of creation |
Features and nuances |
flower |
Flower stencils of different sizes - 5 pcs. Sharp scissors; Needle; Glue; Kapron thread; A bead for the middle; |
1. Circle the stencils and cut them out; 2. Fold the details on top of each other from larger to smaller; 3. Sew a folded pyramid; 4. Fasten the middle of the flower; You can use such a flower as a decoration, an element of furniture decor, or fix a bud on a stick and put in a vase. |
When using old skin, you should pre-treat it with a sponge dipped in soapy water. |
Hot stand |
Glue; Scissors; Stencils; |
To create the stand you need 2 identical parts. 1. Circle the stencil and cut it out; 2. Glue the parts together;
|
To create a denser stand you can use cardboard in your work. A stencil should be cut from it, less than the main one by 0.5-1 cm at the edges and glued in the middle. |
Case for mug |
Scissors; Glue; Needle with thread; Satin ribbon; Synthetic winterizer; Felt; |
1. From leather and felt, cut out 1 rectangular part, the width of which is 2 cm less than the height of the circle, and the length is equal to its circumference. 2. On the leather part, make cuts at the same distance from each other and pry the tape into them 3. Put a synthetic winterizer on the felt part, connect it to the leather and sew the edges. 4. Sew a button and eyelet from different sides of the finished cover. |
You can use any materials to decorate the cover: beads, stones, buttons, etc. You can also write small text on the case. For greater uniqueness, you can write the text with silicone glue, sprinkling it with sparkles. |
Leather bag |
Pattern; Line punch; Rope;
|
1. Mark out a piece of leather, and cut out the details. 2.Punch holes in the places where the bag will be stitched 3.Flash parts with a saddle seam. 4. Stitch the sides of the bag. 5. Make bag handles from a long piece of skin by placing the rope inside to shape it. 6.Sew on handles.
|
It is also recommended to sew a lining for the bag. |
Wooden box with leather handles |
Box; Glue; Scissors; Nails |
Make leather handles and fix them on the box using nails, glue or rivets. The choice depends on the size and weight of the box. You can also decorate it by painting with interesting text. |
To avoid tearing the belts at the attachment points, you can strengthen this part with an additional layer of leather or pad. |
Leather baskets
For the simplest method, you will need several rivets and a piece of old leather, from which a square part is cut. A circle is drawn in the middle of the square, the distance from the circle to the edge of the part should be at least 5 cm (these will be the walls of the basket). Draw 2 lines connecting opposite corners and make an incision from the corner to the point of contact of the line and the circle. Next, the opposite sides should be fixed with rivets.
For more complex baskets, it is necessary to use ready-made patterns. An example of one of them in the photo below. It is important to use well sharpened scissors when working with the skin. So the cutting process will be faster without damaging the edges of the material.
Leather flower pots
The original decoration of flower pots requires nothing but scissors, a compass, a pen and a piece of leather. On a sheet of paper you need to create a layout, as in the photo. The diameter of the smaller circle should be several centimeters larger than the pot. Next, transfer the pattern to the skin, and cut a circle. Slots are made using a clerical or special knife. In the upper part of the pot, make 4 holes and fix the cords in them with knots. If desired, you can decorate it with decorative elements.
This is only a small part of what can be made from an old piece of genuine leather without spending a lot of time, effort and finance. And finished products will become a unique element of decor.
