3 sqm bathroom design m.: choice of layout, furniture, decoration
Repairing in a small bathroom is a serious task, because all family members use the bathroom several times a day. Despite its small size, the bath should be convenient for everyone. In addition, it should be designed so that it lies down
to keep it clean.

Planning
How to plan a small bathroom? There are only two popular options:
- Simple: there is a bathroom along the short side, and all other items of the bathroom interior are placed along the adjacent long side.
- Without corners: objects are placed in front of the bathroom in a semicircle. This option takes up more space. But this can be corrected by choosing small plumbing.
Creating a design project for a small bathroom, choose the angular arrangement of elements of plumbing and furniture. The interior elements themselves are desirable to be round, streamlined, small in size. Draw a few plans, trying to use every decimeter of space to good use.
Selection of plumbing
Usually a bathtub is conditionally divided into several zones (three or four), in which there is a bathtub, toilet bowl, sink, bidet, shower. But, having three square meters of space, it is impossible to arrange all these plumbing fixtures. It’s going to sacrifice something. Most often they abandon the bath, as the most cumbersome piece of furniture. The bathtub is replaced with a shower. The stores have a huge selection of booths with a variety of options, including music and hydromassage.
Some families are not ready to abandon the bath. If you have or plan a small child, then a bath is needed. In this case, you need to choose the corner bathroom, which takes up a minimum of space. Other compromise options are a sitz bath, or a bath of complex configuration (tapering toward the legs).
Important: If you abandoned the shower, and will use an open shower, then in a small bathroom you need to lay tiles from the ceiling to the floor.
Other plumbing items that you need in the bathroom (bidet, toilet, sink) should be as small as possible, hanging and with rounded edges. Wall-mounted plumbing saves a lot of free space that can be used properly. For example, under a hinged toilet, you can store household chemicals, and under a small sink - place a compact washing machine. The drain tank is a separate reason to save a little space. Get a toilet with a hinged cistern, place a water tank on top or side, and you will expand the bathroom space to the width of this tank.
Bathroom furniture
Buy furniture only from moisture resistant materials. Wood and cork can often be seen in magazines as part of the interior of the bathroom. But one thing is the magazine pictures, and another thing - the real conditions for the operation of the tree in a small volume with high humidity. In a small bathroom, wooden cabinets or panels last for several seasons. Then you need a replacement. Therefore, choose practical MDF, plastic, glass, chipboard, natural or artificial stone. If without a natural tree in any way, then use expensive moisture resistant varieties: wenge, teak, iroko.
In addition to the plumbing, the bathroom needs cabinets, bedside tables under the sink, shelves, etc. Instead of several wall-mounted cabinets, use the built-in cabinet in the bathroom, a whole sheet. At first glance, it will take up too much space. But in fact, it is many small objects along one wall that cause a feeling of crowding in people in a small space. In the built-in wardrobe you can “pack” not only boxes and objects, but also a mirror, a bidet, a basket for dirty clothes and even a sink. Try to hide all small items in a cramped bathroom. Cluttered shelves and a sink - this is exactly what causes a feeling of discomfort and does not fit with the rules of hygiene.
a door
The main rule of the door for the bathroom: it must open outward or be sliding. Half a measure of the space inside that the door “eats” inside is completely unacceptable for planning a small bathtub. Mirror or glossy inner surface of the door will greatly help in expanding the visual space in the bathroom.
Important: Do not disregard the place above the door. There in the wall cabinet you can arrange a great place inaccessible to animals and children for storage, for example, caustic household chemicals.
Material selection
The first requirement for finishing materials in the bathroom is resistance to moisture and its consequences: fungus, rot, etc. This is especially important for small rooms. The best choice for a small bathroom is tile on all walls, or in combination with moisture-resistant paint.
Do not use large tiles: the smaller the space, the less tiles should be. Multicolor tiles with multiple decorative elements should also be discarded. In a small volume, they simply cannot be properly entered. But combinations of two colors-companions, borders, color accents on the walls, etc. are possible and desirable. Try a ceramic mosaic with a pixel pattern that does not go out of fashion when small interestingly matching tiles in tone are arranged in a mess, as if in a mess.
Do not use frosted tiles in small bathrooms. In contrast, the glossy surface of the bathroom will add room to the room. As for the ceiling, glossy stretch or painted is an excellent solution in a small volume of the bathroom.
About staining and plastering
Moisture-resistant plaster is used to decorate individual areas in a small bathroom. It is best to arrange such zones around the perimeter above the ceiling, around the toilet, with a vertical strip on the wall opposite the bathroom. But it is obvious that it is unreasonable to apply such a finish above the bathroom and the sink, near the shower cabin: you have to plaster and paint again after about a year.
The color scheme of a small bathroom
Immediately abandon the traditional color division of the walls into a light top and a dark bottom. In a cramped bathroom, this “progressive design" will divide the space. And our goal is to unite it and expand it visually.
The color scheme is determined by the style that you have chosen to decorate your bathroom. Minimalism or hi-tech will require cold light tones with a few dark accents. The classic adapted for a small space allows you to use warm colors: beige, pink, peach. In any case, the combination of bright elements, the effect of a "kaleidoscope" in a small room without natural light is not what is required for relaxation. On the other hand, a fully white or plain bathroom will quickly tire and bore you.
Lighting solution
The only way to make the bathtub visually larger with the help of lighting is to fill it with a uniform bright light. Place on the walls and ceiling several popular now built-in or overhead lamps in an aluminum profile. The light from them in brightness and color is as close as possible to daylight from the window. An excellent proven option - spotlights around the perimeter of the ceiling. They need to be supplemented with light sources at the mirror, at the sink. This always allows you to vary the nature of the lighting from a pleasant twilight to bright light "like in the operating room."
Accessories
The first important bathroom accessory is mirrors. Fill them with all the free piers, voids, niches in a small bathroom. Use mirrors above the bathroom, above the sink. Get shelves and cabinets with mirrored doors. Mirrored surfaces always expand the space, which can not be said about other small decorative accessories. Recently made moisture resistant mirrors do not fog up, as they are coated with a special composition. The only problem with them is that you often need to wipe them from the raid.
Minimalism is the leading style in the design of small bathtubs. Its basic rule is that the smaller the room, the less details and elements. Necessary small accessories, such as a bottle for soap, a holder for a hairdryer, a glass with toothbrushes, need to be matched to the walls. Make sure that little things do not attract your eyes. The same applies to bath textiles: bathrobes, towels. As color accents, it is better to use not a soap box, but a bright motif from a tile, a sink of a contrasting color, a moisture-loving plant on a shelf. This technique will give the room a little picturesque and carefree, without adding unnecessary cluttering details.
Washing machine and water heater
The issue of installing a washing machine is very painful for residents of small apartments.
Advice! installing a washing machine in a neighboring kitchen does not work well: a small bathroom usually comes with the same small kitchen.
If you can’t find a place in the pantry or kitchen for the washing machine, try sliding it under a small hanging sink. Alternatively, you can buy a narrow machine with a vertical loading, which will perfectly fit the side of the sink. If you properly formalize this idea, then you will get an additional dressing table at the sink.
With a water heater, the issue is solved more simply: it is suspended, and therefore there is always a place in the kitchen for it. Get rid of the bulky old model, buy a new one, compact and economical and place it in the room next door.
Comfort in the bathroom
Think about the device in the bathroom underfloor heating. This is not only pleasant, but also protects against colds in the winter. The floor area of the small bathroom is small, and the cost of installing such heating will not be large.
